Dickson Investment Hardware has been in business since 1969 providing low to medium volume investment castings ranging from 1 oz. to 120 lbs.
Process Description
A wax pattern of the part is molded and attached to a "tree", also made of wax. The tree and the impressions are covered in a ceramic media and fired - which melts the wax away and leaves a series of impressions attached to a sprue / gating system. Molten metal is poured into a ceramic mold. Air permeates through the ceramic mold as metal is being poured. Individual impressions are then cut away from the tree with a band saw. Castings can then be machined, if necessary.
Advantages
- Provides complex shapes with tighter dimensional control than sand casting. Internal cores and undercuts can also be molded in.
